 "Great Resource" 2009-09-30
By Dir T. Jerze (Dirty Jersey)
I'm on my second electromate. I originally purchased one 3 yrs ago and I originally used it to power a laptop, recharge walky talky radio batteries and recharge an 18 volt drill battery everyday and never had a problem as long as I charged it every night after work. Unfortunately I went to use the air compressor one day and as I was cliping down the nozzle attachment onto my tire it snapped and broke rendering my compressor completely useless. Fortunately Black and Decker had a warranty that allowed me to take the unit to one of there distributors in the area and they shipped me a new one in under 2 weeks. I do wish the compressor nozzle was not made of plastic. The one received directly from B&D worked much better than the one originally purchased. I didn't have to worry about charging the unit every night, the one I originally purchased must have had a old or bad battery in it. I have used the compressor several times on car and truck tires and it does take a lone time to fill a completely flat tire but if your in a jam it will do it. I have jumped my family vehicles at least 20 times in the past year, not to mention at least another 10 random people with dead batteries, most of them being 4 or 6 cylinder vehicles but I have jumped a 2004 f-150 and it turned over no problem and that was after it was parked all day (8hr) with the headlights on and completely dead, that was right after a night of charging but I'm guessing it would do it after sitting for a while. Great to keep in my truck, I hate not having it with me in any vehicle I'm driving.

 "Just what I needed" 2009-09-17

I purchased this product as a power source for a small 100 watt sound system. The occasion was a beach wedding

with state regulations where you could not have gas generators on the beach. THIS BABY PERFORMED!!!!

It ran the sound system for 90 mins without a problem. I saved my butt in a difficult situation.

I recommend this product.

"Works as advertised-with an explanation of one major complaint" 2009-09-07
By Mark Phillips (Rockville, MD)
As the title says, I am satisfied with my purchase. I like that there is no extra power supply to keep track of and carry around to charge the device. As far as I am concerned being able to just plug any standard work type extension cord is genius! The AC power supply works as advertised but the inverter cooling fan is rather noisy. You can hear it from one room of the house to the other. The LED light is smart as LEDs use very little energy. There are consistent complaints about the air compressor taking forever to inflate a tire. The problem is not in the air compressor but the little black nipple at the end of the house. One must, with the lever first up, push the inflation fitting all the way onto the tire valve stem by twisting the fitting and gently pushing until you can see none of the brass fittings and then push down the lever to connect the hose and open the valve on the valve stem. If you do this correctly, you will see the actual tire pressure currently in the tire on the air pressure gauge. If the air hose fitting is not on the valve stem properly, when you turn on the inflator, the air pressure will initially say 0 psi until you turn on the pump and then the pressure will jump up to 100psi. What is happening in this situation, is that the air compressor is trying to push against a closed valve. It will VERY SLOWLY push air into the tire. Make sure you have the fitting right and it will work very quickly. Black and Decker should put a better air hose fitting on the end of the hose to eliminate this issue.

As stated, everything works. Ultimately, I will use the dc receptacles to charge the device via solar panels through a charge controller.

Update as of 9/19/2009

I have had this unit for some time now and have been charging it via the 12 volt cigarette lighter with a small 30 watt array using two Sunforce 15watt panels in parallel. I use a Sunforce 7 amp charge controller to protect the battery in the device. I can easily charge this unit in about 6 hours from a depleted point at which the inverter auto shut off to protect the battery the night before. I get 5 to 6 hours of light from a standard torche lamp in my living room with a 23 watt cfl installed. I recently started charging it in parallel with a old jump starter pack I had been given as an anniversary gift at a job. If I am only using 6 hours of the sun, I am not storing all the energy I can.

I now run the Electromate in the living room for about 5 hours to power the lamp and the Jump start pack gets a 75 watt inverter plugged into it and I run an identical setup upstairs in my computer room.

I want backup power in an emergency and a very good way to get the bugs out is to use it continually so the problems will pop up at I time when I don't really need emergency power, instead of at the most inopportune time.

 "Satisfied" 2009-08-22
By Dennis Lodge (Jacksonville Fl)
I have had this now for close to 3 years. It is slow inflating a tire...close to 15 min if completely deflated but it will get the job done. I have used it many times for this already. I have used it twice for jump starting cars and has worked great both times for that as well. It has proven to be very popular when we go camping as many people use it to recharge cell phones and things like that. I have never tried it for an actual power supply for fans or anything but don't think it would last to long anyway and don't want to risk draining the battery right away on a camping trip. Overall it is a perfect little unit for what I need and after almost 3 years has not failed me yet when I needed it. I would recommend it to anyone looking for peace of mind knowing they can inflate their tire or jump start their car if needed.

I keep mine in my car, plugged into my Cobra power inverter. It's an awesome combo. The air compressor is a little slow, but good for maintaining safe tire pressures. I got a nail in my tire and filled it from 10psi to 40 psi nine times without recharging it, and it still had lots of juice left. I jump started two V6 cars and a 4 cylinder car in one day on a single charge. If you want to hook up an entertainment system or a cappuccino machine, get a generator or a power inverter! Charges laptops, cellphones, etc very well.
